Guilty, Episode 9

The Actors

Rape-Huggist: Tamaki Hiroshi
Rape-Huggee: Kanno Miho ♀

The Context
This is a repeat rape-hug between these two characters, who were spotted rape-hugging in episode 4. (Note that Tamaki Hiroshi is the patron saint of J-Dorama Rape-Hugs for the most frequent and the most disturbing rape-hugs in all of Japanese Dorama-hood.) While the first rape-hug was when he professed his love for her, and there was a kind-of relationship between them, nothing really happened, except for that she - a psycho serial killer - kills a few more people, and he - a detective - fails to stop any of the killings. In this rape-hug, I guess he is reaffirming his love for her, in his own special way. This time, he finally finds out beyond reasonable doubt that she is going around passively murdering people, but instead of arresting her, he tries to tear down her apartment which is full of pictures of people she has and is still planning to kill.

The Result
Again, the result is negligible - they are kind of together, but then again they never get together. What I mean by this is, the drama ends with her killing herself by drinking poison, and he discovers her and defiles her dead body by French rape-kissing her corpse, thereby allowing them to be dead together.

Man I hate any dorama with Tamaki Hiroshi in it.

The Depiction
This rape-hug begins with quite a lengthy fight-scene, him trying to destroy the room, her getting in his way, and him thinking that is the best possible opportunity to make his move. I mean, they've been dating for several episodes now, and as far as I can tell he's still on first base.

During his freak-out he grabs her by the shoulders, which is usually what a man does when a woman is freaking out. Then he says that he loves her in his over-dramatic manner with his violently contorting face, she starts crying (an acceptable reaction), and then he closes the deal. Then he continues the torture by whispering things in her ear.

Yes - the translation actually uses the words "I've caught you". How come no-one has ever picked up on the rape-hug epidemic in Japanese TV?

Awkwardometor
This easily gains the full five stars for awkwardness. Any time that there is a fight-scene where the woman is not a martial artist or somehow incredibly good at fighting because it is one of those stupid comedy dramas for teenage girls, then things have gone horribly, horribly wrong. There is also the long pause beforehand, the "I've caught you" line, and the creepy whispering in her ear. Sure, you could give any rape-hug by Tamaki a five-star just on reputation, but he keeps outdoing himself.

Video
Watch the incredibly disturbing fight-scene turn into the above rape-hug.

Jiu, Episode 5

The Actors

Rape-Huggist: Shirota Yu ♂
Rape-Huggee: Kuroki Meisa ♀

The Context
This is the 2nd rape-hug of the series (the previous one is covered here), under almost the same circumstances - the only difference being that they did the dirty after the first rape-hug, so their genitals have already touched. Again, this rape-hug comes after she throws a punch at him, he swats it off and decides that it would be a perfect time for a hug. I honestly can't blame him since he was so successful last time. The main difference here is that while holding her hostage in the rape-hug posiition, he patronises her with Christian things like "I want to save you". (By the way, where does this idea come from that you can "save" someone by boning them?)

The Result
They end up in bed together again, which makes it sad when he dies.

The DepictionAgain this rape-hug takes place at night, after a disappointingly short and badly filmed fight-scene. Seriously, she is supposed to be an elight police SWAT officer, and one guy simply wraps her up? They both end up standing for the duration of the rape-hug with their muscles flexed while he gives his pattronising "I'll save you" speech. (And yes, he is Christian, if you're wondering. Even Japanese Christians are patronising.)

Awkwardometor
This would be more awkward, however a girl loses all rape-hug credibility after sleeping with the guy. Talk about giving off the wrong signals. I'm not saying that it's fair game, but it would be far harder to prove in the court of law.

Video
See the shitty fight scene and heavy breathing in real-time.

Jiu, Episode 4

The Actors
Rape-Huggist: Shirota Yu ♂
Rape-Huggee: Kuroki Meisa ♀

The Context
They are both elite police-force members. Basically, think of the Samuel L Jackson film S.W.A.T. where the guy is Colin Farrell, and she is Michelle Rodriguez. In fact, ever since first making this obvservation, I cannot look at Kuroki Meisa without thinking that she is the Asian version of Michelle Rodriguez. They are both incredibly attractive, but they always take on roles that make them butch, they always wear tank tops (or "wifebeaters) and they often die.

Here is a quick comparison I microsoft painted-up:
Although Kuroki takes the glamour edge, this is just ridiculous - these are the exact same jackets and low-cut wife-beaters they are wearing. I wonder how many times Rodriguez has been rape hugged over her acting career.

The Result
This is a very successful rape-hug, as later in this episode they are shown in post-coitus before she gets up and leaves him when you can tell that he really wants to spoon.

The Depiction
This is a fighting rape-hug. A bit earlier on in the series she destroys three of her elite police force male colleagues (breaking of of their arms in the process), so we all know that she can fight - and unlike most female actresses Meisa is actually convicing as a quality fighter. However, she tests her luck again, and he fends her off like a small child, wraps her up so she doesn't end up hurting herself, and rape-hugs her against her own free will. This makes it one of the rare rape-hugs in Japanese doramas where the rape-huggee is actually stuggling.

Awkwardometor

Yes, this is a from-behind rape-hug that happens at night which usually would jack up the awkardometor a few stars. This scores low on the awkwardometor because she kind of deserved it by throwing a punch at an obviously superior fighter, and unless you are a total badass who is willing to punch a female in the face, the only acceptable way to fight a woman is by wrapping her up. (The other "options" are to take a beating, or to fight using another female's fists Jet Li & Aaliyah style.) So, really he did exactly the right thing, right up until the moment that he thinks "she's throwing a punch on me, that must means she likes me." Well, unfortunately his hunch proved correct, but I'm going out on a limb to say that he hit the freaking jackpot. The odds of this working were astoundingly low, and seriously, if Meisa stopped taking on roles where she is trying to be a bad-ass tom-boy, she would be the hottest J-dorama actress, so screw this guy. But in the end, this is a rape-hug merely due to him extending a counter wrap-up long enough for it to be awkward and him to get a boner. So as much as I hated this rape-hug and everything it mis-represents, it scores a measly one star.

Video
A most disappointingly short fight-scene that quickly turns creepy.
